The root chakra is the most important chakra because it upholds, supports, and gives life to the rest of the six chakras. If we are not rooted in peace and security, our whole world would crumble. I prepared a few root chakra journal prompts that can also be seen as shadow work journal prompts.
What is the root chakra?
The root chakra is the first chakra in the chakra system and it controls security and safety. When unbalanced, we feel disconnected from ourselves and others. Fear, and a blurry vision of the future lives in a blocked root chakra. The best way to combat a blocked root chakra is shadow work.

What is shadow work?
Shadow work is the process of removing blocks and obstacles that have been placed in our subconscious mind. Examples of blocks are trauma and negative belief patterns. To remove these blocks, we practice shadow work surrounding security, early learned beliefs, and childhood memories, which are also called root chakra journal prompts. The root chakra governs peace, security, and healthy connections. Keeping this chakra open and healthy is important in progressing through life.
An example of progressed shadow work
Think about a woman who was sexually assaulted by a man. She is most likely afraid to engage in a relationship. This will hinder her growth. Seeking help and practicing shadow work will show this woman that not every man will sexually assault her. Eventually, through enough healing, she will realize that there are men out there who are caring individuals and want to uplift her.
Other issues that can live in a blocked root chakra:
- Scarcity mindset surrounding money and security
- No sense of values or morals
- Aggression
- Eating disorders
- Anxiety and panic attacks
- Nervous or fearful of the future
Why is shadow work so important?
Shadow work is essential in regulating the nervous system and inviting serendipity into our life. Working through past trauma will uplift and push you to a happier place.
Benefits of shadow work:
- Shifting your identity to attract better opportunities
- Improves sleep quality
- A sense of relief
- Manifest quicker
- Higher self-esteem
- Increases optimism for the future
Is shadow work dangerous?
Shadow work is not dangerous, but it can feel very scary, discomforting, and triggering. Depending on the intensity of the trauma you went through in the past will determine whether you can handle shadow work on your own. It is always best to seek a professional shadow work coach to help move past these wounds if you feel afraid. Remember the more you repress and ignore, the harder it will be.
