On March 20th, 2023 the Earth tilted its axis directly above the Sun creating equal length in day and night producing the lovely smell of Spring! In a matter of days, you will start to see butterflies, bees, squirrels, and more! Now it’s time for Spring cleaning!
What is Spring Cleaning?
Spring cleaning is the start of a new cycle after the wintry cold months. The animals are coming out of hibernation and nature is reblooming after the brisk freeze. Everything is waking up and moving, therefore we should too by cleaning and getting rid of things that no longer serve us.
Why do people Spring Clean?
What’s the hype behind spring cleaning? Spring cleaning is like the start of the New Year. So in perspective, there are basically three new years: New Year’s Day, Chinese New Year, and a Zodiac New Year (or the Vernal Equinox). New Year’s day is in reference to the calendar day after the completion of 12 months. Chinese New Year is associated with the start of a new Chinese zodiac sign (Year of the Rabbit for 2023). The Zodiac New Year is the start of the first astrological sign, Aries season, which is also the first day of Spring!
5 Spring Cleaning Tips
- Deep Clean
- Out with the Old, In with the New
- Move Furniture and Wall Hangings Around
- Set Intentions and Long-Term Goals
- Plant Greenery
1. Deep Clean
Deep cleaning is way more intense than regular cleaning. Deep cleaning involves moving furniture and fixtures around and getting to the “hard-to-reach” spots. Dusting, mopping and polishing. A good spring cleaning safety tip is to use gloves, masks, and toxic-free cleaning supplies.
Places to fully deep clean your home:
Interior | Exterior |
---|---|
Behind the oven | Clean the gutters |
Behind the refrigerator | Pressure wash the house siding |
Wash and clean window treatments | Pull the weeds and dead plants |
Clean the walls & ceilings | Clean the windows and shutters |
Dust the fans, top of the refrigerator, shelves, etc. | Pressure wash the stains on the driveway and pavement |
Clean the washer & dryer | Clean your outdoor furniture |
2. Out with the Old, In with the New
Another beneficial spring cleaning tip is to donate clothes you have not worn in the last 6 months. Getting rid of clothes and home decor trinkets you no longer feel attached to, always seems to bring a new type of energy. Space! Space for growth and new home decor items that spark an interest in you. Invite wall posters, lamps, and new pillows into your space.
3. Move furniture and wall hangings around
You don’t always have to buy new stuff to change a space. Move your couch in a different direction, rotate an abstract wall painting, and change out picture frames. Moving home decor items really shakes up the feng shui. Your energy will change and your mind will start to look at your home as a brand-new place. This is a great spring cleaning tip for apartments since painting the walls is sometimes not an option.
4. Set Intentions and Long-Term Goals
If you didn’t meet some of your 2023 New Year goals, there is still time. You can look at the four seasons as an opportunity to set quarterly goals. An underrated goal to set is the achievement of an emotion. I want to feel bliss and joy this spring equinox. Goals and intentions are very strong this spring because it is the start of the fiery go-getter Aries season.
Examples you can set:
Emotions to Feel | Goals & Intentions to Set |
---|---|
Creative | Letting go of control and trusting |
Bliss | Making $x amount of money |
Joy | Finish this project |
Happiness | Taking a vacation to Barbados |
Peace | Stop complaining and appreciate life |
Contentment | Read 15 books |
5. Plant Greenery
Nothing is better than seeing animals enjoying the essence of Spring! Plant some flowers and shrubs for the lovely pollinators. Adding greenery and pops of color to the exterior and interior of your home really sparks a new aura. On the outside, you’ll attract beautiful butterflies and honeybees to keep the flowers blooming. And on the inside, you will have extra oxygen-providing air purifiers.
